I fell in love with this delicious Ginger Sesame sauce and tried preparing tofu in it. It was delicious, but the main ingredient in that sauce was high fructose corn syrup, and we know how unhealthy that is. So I set out to make a delicious and healthy all-natural version.

This recipe uses frozen tofu, which you make out of extra firm tofu, frozen and then thawed. But we'll start with the ingredients:

Ingredient list (sauce):
- 4 tbsp Orange juice concentrate
- 5 tbsp Reduced sodium soy sauce (if using normal soy sauce, don't add salt)
- 4 tbsp Toasted sesame oil (can use normal sesame/olive/vegetable oil + use toasted sesame seeds instead of raw)
- 2/3 cup water
- 1 tbsp Raw sesame seeds (can use toasted sesame seeds for more flavor)
- 2 tsp Italian seasoning
- 1 tbsp Ground ginger (can use equivalent amount of fresh ginger, not sure how much that is)
- 1 tsp Chili powder
- 1 tbsp Lite salt..."
Read the rest of this post

For this project, I have used an ATMEL AT89S52 microcontroller which is based upon the 8052 core.

I have used a column of 8 LEDs for creating the POV effect. The code for this is quite simple and so I have not bothered to post it here. You can post a comment if you want it.

Initially it was not working properly because the delay I had used between lighting up each column was about 40 milliseconds.

Then after some searching on the net for similar POV toys led me to believe 10 milliseconds might be a good delay.

And sure enough, 10 milliseconds made it work. I guess that it is the optimum speed taking into consideration the speed of the moving arm.

So here it is, my latest POV toy. Comments are welcome!
Below are some time progression snaps that I took when I was making..."
Read the rest of this post

The only disadvantage I found in the Arduino board was that the PORTD and PORTB sockets have a small gap in between them. Because of this gap, I am not able to evenly fit male-female socket pairs. As a result, I cannot make small home-made Arduino shields using general purpose PCBs.

2. Daily/Hourly Alarm
3. Ambient temperature display.
4. Customizable display(User can control whether he wants both time and temperature, only temperature, only time display or neither time nor temperature to be displayed). This is achieved via a very simple DIP interface.

I first picked "David Winkler's favorite level 5 burr". This is a "notchable" burr meaning you can construct it entirely by notching the pieces. I used a bit of red-oak I had laying around. This burr is 6 units long, 2 wide. The unit size in my case is 3/8" which I found a good size. "Burr puzzles are interlocking puzzles known in Europe and Asia since at least the 18th century."

The design in this case is a "5.4" meaning there are 5 moves required to remove the first piece, then 4 to remove the..."
Read the rest of this post

If you're originally from where we are, the pacific northwest, you generally see orchids as flowers that are blooming and pretty when you by them, but then never bloom again. Here in Florida, you can just set them outside, I guess, and they bloom year after year, no maintenance required. Here is a lovely orange and red variety.

Next is a green tree frog perched gently on a banana leaf. I was surprised how sluggish he was, because after I snapped the photo, I poked him and he didn't even jump away. Probably poisonous.

Then, a purple water lily. Beautiful, but..."
Read the rest of this post

It is a Fujitsu Lifebook P1120. An 800MHz Transmetta Crusoe processor, 256Mb of ram directly soldered to the board, and ATi Radeon Moble. It was barely powerful enough to play a decent quality movie, but it could play one for almost 3 hours, with the volume up all the way. It had built-in wifi, 30gb hard drive, super-battery life, and a touch screen. I will not buy another laptop without a touch screen.
I don't know where the before pictures are, I think I took them right before my parents used my camera. Who knows.
Anyways, I didn't like the greyish purple color of it, so I decided to paint it.
Krylon Fusion for the blue, and Krylon smei-gloss black primer, as well as more than 20 coats of Krylon clearcoat(can you tell I like Krylon yet?)
I took it apart, and it wasn't the first time, either. I sanded it down, and cleaned it all..."
Read the rest of this post
